SIR - Regarding Katie Jaye's letter on being unable to get tradespeople to build a retaining wall.

I rang six different fencing companies for a quote on two fences. I left four messages on answering machines and spoke to two people who said they would come to quote.

They never showed up and no-one called back. Nobody has even been to the house, so they wouldn't know if it was a big or small job.

Fencing contractors must be rolling in dough. Meanwhile, can anyone tell me who will build our fences?
